More Teensies

Over the Memorial Day weekend I was able to make a whole batch of my Mod Dots and Teensy stickpins. Here are two that were done especially for swaps with Jenn and Debbie. I hope you enjoy your little friends when they arrive! Oh, and I also made a couple more that I will post later... so stay tuned!

Introducing... the newest members of the Teensy family:

Teensy_elephant

Katie is Debbie's puppy and I think she made a great model!

A New Image

Inspired by the Mod Dots etc. stick pins I made earlier this week, I've created a nifty logo for my site. It's done with ink and colored pencils from a handy roll-up drawing set (pencils and a sketchpad all roll up together for easy carrying) which Mark gave me for Christmas about five years ago. I'm finally using it now that I've found it again.

Update! Mark said he missed seeing me on my site (aww) so he created this fabulous image for me to use instead. Now you can see me and my Mod Dots logo! Isn't he the best?! (If you missed the earlier version, you can see it in my new gallery Crafts, etc.)

Another First

Ta-da! My first submission for A Month of Softies is finished:

Flowers_1

She's made of felt with a button eye and stuffed -- but not too much lest she appear bloated! This was a good reason to make a larger version of my small fish pincushion and it was easy to enlarge the simple pattern. She is 7" long x 5"high. Oh, and of course the flowery felt is what helped her to fit in perfectly with MoS's May theme of "Flowers".

As Promised...

In my post yesterday I promised more from the yard sale/thrift store marathon. Today I have for you a picture of my *favorite* find:

Desk

I got this great little desk for... drum roll please... $17.50! I was so excited when the woman at the thrift store said that if I picked it up before 4:00 that day I could have it for just $17.50. Could I? You bet I could! The first thing I did was to call my sister-in-law who said that I could use her truck and she would help me. Then I called Mark to tell him about it - I was so giddy. I love the lines of the legs and the simple retro look of it. It needs a little TLC and new drawer pulls, but its sturdy and did I mention that it was only $17.50? Now if I could only move it into my office… just as soon as I finish painting said office.

I also wanted to show you my current obsession - making these teeny stickpins. If you click on one of the images you can see a larger version. Clockwise from top right we have: Mod Dots and Teensy Daisies, Birdies and Chickens. Now if only I'd get to work on my Month of Softies project. *sigh*

Update 5.30.05
This swap opp has ended:

[If anyone would like to do a swap for a dozen pins send me an e-mail. You can choose from what you see here or I can make all shapes in any color combination. Just ask. And if you tell me what your favorite animal is I'll add that in to make it a baker's dozen!]

Thanks to everyone who contacted me! If you missed out on the swap, don't lose hope -- you'll be able to order them in the future so stay tuned for information about my store!

Thrifty Marathon

I think I'm overwhelmed with the bounties of my yard sale/thrift store marathon shopping trip. I haven't had time to photograph everything I want to post, but I did take a few shots of the fab fabrics I found:

I love the orange, yellow and green combination.

Oranges

This Scandinavian-ish blue one on top is my favorite. The birds are great!

Blues

Great mod green fabric with the turquoise, orange and yellow.

Greens

Lots of florals here, they're always good to have on hand.

Purples

Want to know the best part? I got all of this (and some more I didn't photograph) for one dollar! They had a huge bag of "scraps" marked for $1.00 and I thought I saw a couple of pieces that looked pretty interesting so I bought it. Once I got it home and started taking things out I found all of these great and quite large (for my purposes) pieces. Happy, happy day.

Stay tuned for more tomorrow... I'm saving the best for last!

Something Sweet

Two things I didn't deserve but am thankful for:

1) Mark surprised me with peach roses a couple of days ago! This one opened more beautifully than the others so I put it into it's own vase. It's actually a teacup that my great aunt Nyle brought back from her trip to Japan.

2) My Gardenias are blooming like crazy despite my shameful neglect of them.

Nourishment

After three different ideas and some frustration I've finally completed my contribution for Illustration Friday. Phew! I'm pretty happy with it. I almost forgot that we live in "Space City USA", so I added the little patch to her space suit.

Now I have two images in my IF photo album! There's still time to scribble your own entry if you want to... just go here for all the info: Illustration Friday

Apron Strings

I've been reading about aprons here at Angry Chicken and it has inspired me to take some pictures of my own. First up is the one I made for a very little Olivia for Christmas 2003. The felt gingerbread man has bells and is hanging from the sash by a ribbon. The last three aprons are from my Grandma Orpha (no, not Oprah but they're both variations on the biblical name Orpah) and are probably 25-40 years old.

Update: How could I leave these out? More aprons here and here. And some more beautiful vintage ones here! (Amanda, I knew I'd seen some more but couldn't remember where!) And go see Rebecca -- she has posted a darling picture of an apron that her grandmother made for her daughter!

Olivia_apron_1

Another picture of adorable Olivia. I think she's becoming the star of this blog. (Yes Kyle, more cuteness.)

Pink_apron

I love the apple green ricrac and the 70's fabric on this one.

Christmas_apron

I've worn the Christmas one for holiday cooking several times. It's very festive don't you think?

Bell_apron

This one is so sheer I've never worn it -- too scared that I'd ruin it. Below is a close-up of the tiny crocheted bells.

More Time Capsule

This is the third is a series of posts about the Time Capsule. Click here to read the next one or here to go to the first in the series.

I decided to add several more items to the Time Capsule photo album today. If you aren't familiar with the origin of this group of tiny treasures read this post, and this one.

Now for the goodies:

Ann_n_andy

When I was little I had a big Raggedy Ann doll, with the "I Love You" heart, but I've never seen one as small as this teeny pair. If you can't tell from the picture, their arms are like little pinchers so they can grab on to things. In fact, when I first found them they were grabbing each other's arms in a big hug. Too cute!

Wood_beads

I love these little stacking boxes and the tiny wooden beads are exactly the kind of thing I can put to good use once my craft room is finished!

Coin_purse

I prefer small purses to large ones, but this one might even be too small for me!

Calendar

How many favorites can I have? Is there a limit? Nah! This calendar is so sweet with it's vintage cover. And I thought that the little white bear matched the snowey theme. I opened it up and found the date - 1984. I'm not sure how old Terilyn was in 1984, probably around 12, but I was just finishing my freshman year of junior high.

Open_calendar

TIME CAPSULE TRIVIA
Did you check out the date on the quarter I used in these photos? (Hint: you just might be able to see it in the Raggedy Ann photo.) It is from 1970. I think it's ironic that the quarter is probably older than all of the things in this Time Capsule, and older than it's benefactor Terilyn too!

A Little Reward

I really don't like grocery shopping. Mostly I try to get everything we need in one weekly trip. This week by putting my trip off for a couple of extra days I was able to get our food supply down to Crystal Light and chocolate chips. (Both of which = unhappy husband.) So this morning as I reluctantly made my way around the store I treated myself to a little something colorful. I really wasn't planning on getting anything (honest!) but the buttons literally jumped out at me. Once I had the buttons I had to get some felt because I've been planning to do a project with them. Once I had one I had to get the other! Never mind that I can't really get started on this project until I finish painting and organizing my office because everything is piled up in the middle of the room.

Oh well... I'll just have to enjoy looking at this picture in the meantime:
