kids only

I'm traveling a lot this summer so I have to apologize for the schizophrenic posting. Plus, we've just sold our house (we close in about three weeks) so I can't promise that it will get any better for at least a month. If you can make it though this with me I still plan to have a super surprise for you at the end of July... it may trickle into August a bit but I promise it'll be fun!

In the meantime, I've still been taking photos of things and people as well as thrifting. I ♥ thrifting in San Diego. Did I mention that we were in San Diego? Point Loma to be exact and it was beautiful – a welcome retreat from the Texas heat. And even though thrifting there was not always as cheap as it is here in Houston, I found some sweet pieces of fabric for my trouble.

winners & workers

Hooray for winners!
Congratulations to kirsten*, kelly sue and ana romero monteiro! Would you ladies please send me an e-mail with your address and tell me whether you'd prefer the ninja iron-on transfers, robot iron-on transfers or a set of fabric gift tags?

Hooray for workers!
(Okay... just one worker, me.) I was up early this morning cutting out all of the ninja iron-on transfers for Gillian. She placed a special order that included all different sizes plus a great big ninja with a red shuriken (throwing star) for the birthday boy. I hope you have a wonderful party!

*In case we have any sticklers out there: I realize that Kirsten commented and didn't leave a suggestion but I put everyone's name in who commented so I think that's fair. Okay? Great!

p.s. I'm sitting at my desk watching a big 'ol thunderstorm out the windows and I'm loving every minute of it! I've said it before and I'll say it again... I'm only happy when it rains.

p.s. I've decided I'll announce the winners of the contest drawing tomorrow morning. So... feel free to submit like crazy for the rest of the day!

week of color :: blue

I've been looking forward to blue all week. This doll was found among my paternal grandmother's things and God bless the person who noticed that she had written Laurie on the underside in her shakey handwriting. (Jill, was it you?) I have no recollection of this doll. I don't remember ever seeing or playing with her, but what this wee doll represents to me is much more prescious. It tells me that my grandmother knew me well. That she had a knowledge of her grandaughter which included her love of tiny things. And that she took the time to write her grandaughter's name on something that belonged to her so that that little girl (now all grown up) would know and remember her too. ♥

It's blue Thursday and I'm feeling blue thinking of grandma... but I'm also feeling so, so loved. (Shanna, as you have in the past, today you inspired me to find something more personal for one of my posts.)

week of color :: gray

Usually my computer keyboard is a "no touch" but I made an exception this time. My nephew Peter's hands look so sweet against the keys.

week of color :: brown

This is the boardwalk in Lake Carles, Louisiana - hometown of my husband. It's still in the same condition that was after hurricane Rita hit the small town last September. I know it may not look like it at first, but almost everything in these images is some shade of brown. Pale brown sunbleached wood on the boardwalk, brown water, brown piles of wood and wreckage lining the shoreline, brown brick buildings in the background and a small brown duck swimming along.

week of color :: white

Clive's soft white underbelly.

I decided that I couldn't resist finding out what the ninjas were up to this week. Don't you think it's funny how they always coordinate their activities with the week of color? If you'd like to check out the photos I captured of them, you can find the images here and here.

p.s. This one picture per post thing is killing me. How can I choose just one? I read a couple of other posts and everyone else seems to be using this week as a bit of a break from their hectic posting schedule and here I am a nervous wreck. If I continue along this path I'll be poking my eyes out by the end of the week. Hmm... maybe I should do what Lisa did and post 'em all!

the colors are coming

The blogosphere is all a twitter as another week of color approaches and I for one can't wait. If you're new to this phenomenon go check out Stephanie or port2port's blog for all of the juicy details, then start planning your photos. I've already spent a couple of days trying to decide what to do this week. Should I use the tiny ninjas again or go with something different? Should I pre-plan all of my images or should I wait and find my shot opportunity each day?

Decisions, decisions... I guess I'll have to decide pretty soon.

In the meantime, I've got some photos to show you of the things I bought and saw while Mark and I were in Waco and Dallas last week. The new fabrics and buttons are going to be part of a top secret project that I'm working on. Oh man... now that I've mentioned it I just know I won't be able to keep it a secret for long. For now I'll only say that I'm planning a big surprise for you (my readers) and that it will take place at the end of July. Okay, that's it -- no more information!

Oh, and before you get to the photos let me thank everyone who has commented my last post. Wow! I had no idea I was missing out on so many wonderful blogs and I'm only a third of the way through the list. If there's anyone else out there with suggestions don't forget that I'm doing the drawing on Friday so there's still plenty of time to get in on some free stuff.

introductions & a contest

I think I mentioned a while back that I'd changed the look of my site. What I didn't mention was that a few days later I decided that I didn't really like it. So I changed it to what you see now. *ahh* There, that's better. One of the big changes that I made was to remove my links and create a page on my shop's website just for links. It's divided into three sections: podcasts; shopping and fun & inspiration. Go check it out!

a contest
Okay people I need your help. I've been so busy lately that I feel like I'm missing out on some great blogs and I was hoping that you'd tell me about some of your favorite crafty-type sites and shops.

Here's the deal... if you know of a fun website and you don't find it on my links page there's a good chance I haven't discovered it yet, which is a very sad thing indeed. All you have to do is leave me a comment with a link(s) to these blogs/sites/shops (that way everyone gets to see them too) and at the end of the week I'll do a random drawing to determine the winner. Oh, what the heck, let's do three winners! Each winner will receive their choice of ninja iron-on transfers, robot iron-on transfers or a set of fabric gift tags.

welcome!
