week of color :: blue
I've been looking forward to blue all week. This doll was found among my paternal grandmother's things and God bless the person who noticed that she had written Laurie on the underside in her shakey handwriting. (Jill, was it you?) I have no recollection of this doll. I don't remember ever seeing or playing with her, but what this wee doll represents to me is much more prescious. It tells me that my grandmother knew me well. That she had a knowledge of her grandaughter which included her love of tiny things. And that she took the time to write her grandaughter's name on something that belonged to her so that that little girl (now all grown up) would know and remember her too. ♥
It's blue Thursday and I'm feeling blue thinking of grandma... but I'm also feeling so, so loved. (Shanna, as you have in the past, today you inspired me to find something more personal for one of my posts.)

grandma's stationary (my sister also has one of these cards)

oh laurie! how wonderful! in my grandmother's house there is a picture of my namesake (her mother)that has a little sticker on the back that says "hannah. for hannah" i can so remember as a little girl that i loved looking at the picture as much as i loved to look at the sticker on the back and know that it would be mind someday. thank you for bringing back that feeling.

What amazing keepsakes for you to have.
Is that writing on the underside of things a universal grandma trait?? Mine did the same thing... lol.

Oh, how sweet!
I have a pin-cushion doll from my grandma that I knew, and an old old sewing machine from the grandma who died a few months before I was born.
I treasure them both.

Your Grandma Orpha wasn't by any chance named Ora Orpha something and just called Orpha, was she? Please email me either way to let me know!

beautiful post. i just adore that little doll. our grandmother put little stickers with the names of her children and grandchildren on all the art and knick-knacks in her house. lisa and i used to have a grand time creeping around her house lifting things up to see to whom they would eventually belong.

Wow, what a memory. That doll is indeed a treasure, and I love her stationery. We have my husband's grandma's calling cards, I just love that she had these and they've always fascinated me.
