shoulda, coulda, woulda

I shoulda waited until this book arrived before trying to make up my own pincushion pattern. Sure, in this photo it looks sorta good. Pictures make it easier to pretend that the way it turned out (flower instead of tomato-shaped) was how I'd planned for it to. Even if it is totally not the look I was going for -- at all.

Oh, and I coulda worked more carefully when sewing up one particular section. Going into it I knew that it would be tricky. I told myself to be careful not to accidentally catch the fabric from one section while sewing the next. But, I still did it.

pin cushion whoops

If I’d heeded my own inner censor, I woulda spared myself a wonky flower-shaped pincushion with a big (though conveniently hidden) whoops! on the bottom. But I didn’t. And you know what, I’d do it all again. Who knows what I’ll end up with next time!

WANT AD
Does anyone know where I can find cute translucent pins like the ones on this pin cushion? I love 'em.

THANK YOU
Thank you so much to Angie of parentdish.com for posting my Pom Pom Pumpkin tutorial. You almost made me want to send you a pipe cleaner Santa for saying such incredibly nice things about me + liquid paper.

A SLIGHT DELAY
I meant to post pics of my new + in progress craft studio space, but by the time I remembered to take photos it was too dark to get a good shot. I’ll try again later this week.

In that photo, I think I have the smaller yellow transulcent pins from Fabric Warehouse, they were sold with translucent blue pins in a little clear box. They are longer, so I think they are sold as quilters pins. I'll look and see if I have some around and I'll mail you some, if I do.

i was going to say the same thing about the pins....definitely look for glass head quilters pins. i have seen them in different colors, too. could send you some if you want.

and i adore the pin cushion. it is still sweet even if it not what you had mind.

Pipe Cleaner Santa, so close...........and yet so far away..............

Eh, I'll get over it. Thanks for sharing your skills, Laurie!

I love this pincushion! And isn't it funny how the first time you make something, all you can focus on are what you think are flaws. So you tweak and change and practice the design of the 1.0 version until it's perfect (the 2.0), but then you find that the first one is always the most favorite because being the original, it was the hardest one to make and shows all the evidence of the thought and handiwork that went into it. I call these first ones "the charmers" and I've got shelves full of them. :) Your pincushion in adorable!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

i love this pincushion.
love the combination of fabrics!

I have some of those translucent yellow pins - they are made by Clover and come in a little clear plastic box with translucent blue pins. They are so fine though that a lot of mine have become bent and damaged.

I love your pincushion - the fabric choices are gorgeous

Not all glass head pins are translucent...in case you are considering ordering online. The most translucent ones I have seen are branded Fons & Porter Crystal Glass Head Pins.

They run about $22 per 180 pins and come in a metal tin most frequently sold as assortments with red - blue - clear - gold but can be ordered in single color sets as well. They come in two sizes 1.7" and 1.3". Glass heads are optimal as they don't melt under an iron.

Let me know if you need a source.
Love the pin cushion and the site redesign.

Cheers,
Cheryl

I like the pin cushion. Really.

I think the pins that I have like that were bought at Jo-Anns a while ago. They are the glass headed ones and came in about 5 different colour choices - or they did at my local store anyway.

I love the colors in your pincushion. I think things that are not exactly perfect are great.

Sweet pincushion. And the "flaw" can easily be hidden with pins. ;)

Ooh, I love that pincushion. The fabrics you have chosen look fabulous together. It's all wonderful. Yes, please do it all again and post more pictures.

It's lovely. And the leaves are splendid!

Lovely pin cushion. The leaves are great.
