the hypoallergenic way to send flowers

More lilac photos in honor of Mother's Day and specifically taken for my mother -- who loves them but doesn't dare bring the real blooms into her house. Hey mom, I finally discovered a way to give you lilacs that won't make you sneeze.

i just had to have it

It was $5.83 in the after-Christmas sale section. I'd seen it in the front window of the store for two months; every time I went inside, it caught my eye. I'm not a sparkly girl, but I have to admit it was the glitter that captured my attention. Then today, as I passed by on my way home, I noticed that the display windows were completely bare. Ack! The tiny tower in all it's glittering glory was gone. I hurried in and, after a furtive glance to my right, I spied it -- there it was, slightly de-sparkled from careless fingers and the flag was drooping, but it was mine. *sigh*

So, how was your day?

Above: the well-lit version. And below: the dimly-lit one. I couldn't decide which one I liked better so you get to see both.

week of color :: blue

I've been looking forward to blue all week. This doll was found among my paternal grandmother's things and God bless the person who noticed that she had written Laurie on the underside in her shakey handwriting. (Jill, was it you?) I have no recollection of this doll. I don't remember ever seeing or playing with her, but what this wee doll represents to me is much more prescious. It tells me that my grandmother knew me well. That she had a knowledge of her grandaughter which included her love of tiny things. And that she took the time to write her grandaughter's name on something that belonged to her so that that little girl (now all grown up) would know and remember her too. ♥

It's blue Thursday and I'm feeling blue thinking of grandma... but I'm also feeling so, so loved. (Shanna, as you have in the past, today you inspired me to find something more personal for one of my posts.)

week of color :: gray

Usually my computer keyboard is a "no touch" but I made an exception this time. My nephew Peter's hands look so sweet against the keys.

week of color :: brown

This is the boardwalk in Lake Carles, Louisiana - hometown of my husband. It's still in the same condition that was after hurricane Rita hit the small town last September. I know it may not look like it at first, but almost everything in these images is some shade of brown. Pale brown sunbleached wood on the boardwalk, brown water, brown piles of wood and wreckage lining the shoreline, brown brick buildings in the background and a small brown duck swimming along.

week of color :: white

Clive's soft white underbelly.

I decided that I couldn't resist finding out what the ninjas were up to this week. Don't you think it's funny how they always coordinate their activities with the week of color? If you'd like to check out the photos I captured of them, you can find the images here and here.

p.s. This one picture per post thing is killing me. How can I choose just one? I read a couple of other posts and everyone else seems to be using this week as a bit of a break from their hectic posting schedule and here I am a nervous wreck. If I continue along this path I'll be poking my eyes out by the end of the week. Hmm... maybe I should do what Lisa did and post 'em all!

cravings

Bowl_cherries_sm

Lately I've been craving fruit and vegetables but I suspect it's mostly for aesthetic reasons. The other day I planned out some great healthy meals. (That's a big step for me to plan the meal and follow through by buying the ingredients too.) After I arrived home from the grocery store I took a large square-shaped shallow white basket from my craft stash. Into it I placed bananas, limes, tangelos, oranges, cherry tomatoes, an avocado, lemons and next to it sits this bowl of cherries. It's all so lovely to look at that I keep replentishing it just to prolong the enjoyment. Plus, now I’m eating my fruit and veggies and I have an incentive to keep the kitchen counters clean and neat.

I have a confession to make. My studio is a big dirty, have-to-step-around-piles mess. Why am I telling you this? I need some accountability, my friends. When I come back here tomorrow I plan on having a clean room. As soon as I save this post I'm going to take some before photos, clean like mad and tomorrow I will post both the before & after shots. *sigh* I have to go now… talk to you tomorrow.
